About Metolius Aviation Capital

Shane Lundgren serves as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Lundgren launched Metolius Aviation Capital in 2006 and brings 40 years of aviation industry experience to the company. In 1978 his father Kim founded Air Berlin and Shane began working as a pilot for the airline in 1982.  After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Shane was involved with the transition from U.S. to German airline. He remained involved at Air Berlin while he began to work in the aircraft leasing business for Pembroke Capital in Dublin in 1998.  Shane built Metolius Aviation Capital after trading Air Berlin aircraft to the Chinese market as well as financing new and spare engines.  After the IPO of Air Berlin in 2006 and the subsequent purchase of shares by Etihad of Abu Dhabi, he grew the office to include a number of strategic partners.

He is an FAA as well as German LBA Airline Transport Pilot with a type rating on the Boeing 737 and over 13,000 hours of flight time in the left seat.   Shane led two flying expeditions across Arctic Siberia in 1994 and 1995 as well as two polar flights in 1997 and 1998.  In 1998 he successfully landed his Antonov AN-2 (N61SL) on the North Pole.  His aircraft is now in the Boeing Museum of flight.  Shane was inducted as a Living Legend of Aviation in August 2022.

This includes financial structuring, restructuring of leases and loans, and airline operations and management.  The team has structured transactions for aircraft and engines in excess of $2 billion and have established relationships with airlines, manufacturers and lenders globally. Our partners and investors are long term and we protect their interests vigorously.

Metolius has invested in aviation related technologies and has a team of aerospace engineers is working on AI solutions for financial modeling, risk analysis and “prompt engineering” or asking the right question for an accurate solution.
